                    The Washington talks, led by middle-ranking officials from China and the United States, lasted two days, making little progress in resolving the worsening Sino-US trade dispute and ending Thursday without a joint statement.
This week, Washington held a hearing on tariffs on 200 billion dollars of Chinese goods. A new round of tariff measures appears to be more likely to take effect in late September or early October.
Despite conflicting signals from factions within the United States on the extent to which pressure is exerted on China over trade disputes, Treasury officials in charge of leading the talks and hard-line U.S. trade representatives are sending the same message, the people familiar with the matter said.
China and the United States have imposed tariffs on each other's merchandise valued at $16 billion. The Chinese government has lodge a complaint with WTO about the US Tariff Act.
