In five General Motors plants in three states will soon share $ 1.3 billion investment to enable them to make higher-quality pickups and new fuel -efficient engines and transmissions . GM said the money will go to Flint , Michigan assembly plant in Romulus , Michigan, near Detroit, an engine plant in Toledo, Ohio, transmission plant , as well as in Bedford, Indiana most of the work of the casting plant will be completed within the next two years. It is unclear how many jobs the investment will create . GM will say only that it will create or retain 1,000 jobs. Nearly half of the money , $ 600 million will go to the Flint factory new paint shop and other upgrades. The plant produces the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. GM also will spend $ 493 million in its Romulus engine plant , so you can create a new V-6 engine and 10 -speed automatic tranmissions, which will make the vehicle more efficient. Around $ 121 million will go to build a logistics center in Detroit Hamtramck manufacturing facility , $ 31 million will go to Toledo transmission plant , so you can crank out more six-speed automatic transmission.
